An Explanation Of Why The American Flag Is Backwards On Military Uniforms

As stated in Army Regulations 670-1 “The American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right.” According to Providr, “When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward.

Basically, when the flag on a uniform is viewed from the right side, it is meant to represent a flag being carried into battle.

However, regardless of its placement, the flag is still one of the most meaningful symbols in the country – if not the world.
