Blame the Internet. Where once movies on the fringe were viewed and then forgotten, the web has taken the ordinary obsessions of the average film fan and turned them into so-called classics. A good example is The Monster Squad. A nominal hit when it was released, it has since become a sacred cow, the kind of “don’t you dare criticize” effort that turn the comment section of any review into a brisk back and forth between devotees and those who believe the effort doesn’t deserve all (or any) of the accolades it gets.
That Was Then
Other films like Wedding Crashers and DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story have an equally specious status, comedies which speak to a specific demographic but otherwise leave the mainstream moviegoer relatively cold. Still, search Google for either effort and you are bound to find those who believe they are misunderstood masterpieces. Now the cast of the latter are looking to reunite. It may not be for a legitimate sequel, but Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller are back for a charity based take on that infamous elementary school sport.
This Is Now
The story of an underdog gym (Average Joe’s) taking on a corporate giant (Globo) for dodge domination, it’s been 13 years since the comedy became another hit for the actors in the leads. Now, they’re coming back to help raise awareness (and money) for Stiller’s foundation, which helps provide educational opportunities for kids around the world. By going to the website and signing up for the team of your choice, you are adding your voice (and your cash) to the cause.
And Here’s How You Can Be Part Of It
